Successful procurements mean Corby’s Urgent Care Centre will continue and an extra 1,000 NHS appointments a month will be available via a brand-new service
The UCC will now be run by OnePrimaryCare, part of OneMedicalGroup, until 31st March 2021. The service will continue as before and be uninterrupted. The new ‘Extended Access’ service will be run by Aspiro Healthcare who run Woodsend Medical Centre.

The Urgent Care Centre will continue to open between 8am and 8pm every day of the year and during these hours, patients with the right need can walk in and be seen without an appointment.
The centre will continue to be available to all patients, including those registered with a GP practice, who have a pressing health need, which may include a minor injury needing additional immediate treatment/investigation (such as an x-ray), or a medical condition which is getting worse.

Corby’s new ‘Extended Access’ service will mean patients can book routine appointments with a GP or other appropriate clinician seven days a week. Appointments may be available for example with a GP, a nurse, pharmacist, mental health professional and what is known as First Contact Practitioner Physiotherapist.
The appointments will be available between 8am and 8pm on weekdays and there will be a number of slots available at weekends, Bank Holidays and over the Christmas and Easter periods. This will be tailored according to the needs of Corby’s population.
Aspiro Healthcare, the provider of the new service, will now work together with the five practices in Corby to ensure all patients in the town have access to the services.

We are an experienced provider who already provide a range of services such as urology, minor surgery and community ear wax from our site for patients in Corby and across north Northamptonshire.”
Toby Sanders, Chief Executive of Northamptonshire’s CCGs added: “We understand our patients are leading increasingly busy lives and there is now much more demand to be able to see a GP or nurse outside normal working hours.
“The GP Extended Access Service has been commissioned to make it much more convenient for patients to book an appointment at a time which suits them, including evenings and weekends. Patients needing a primary care appointment will still contact their GP practice in the usual way but now may be offered an appointment with the GP Extended Access Service, if this is right for them.”
